William Cashen’s ‘Manx Folk-Lore’ has been out of circulation for over seventy years now. It appeared posthumously in , the year of Cashen’s own death, explaining the rather curious title of the book. It was edited for publication bySophia Morrison, the Manx folklorist and Gaelic activist. WILLIAM CASHEN was born seventy-four years ago at Dalby, then the chief fishing place on the Island. His father was half fisherman, half farmer, as were many Manxmen in those days.
